History & Background

Knowledge Oman is a multi-award-winning knowledge sharing platform. Knowledge Oman was founded by Tariq Hilal Al Barwani in 2008 to support the Late Sultan Qaboos vision of transforming Oman into a Knowledge-based society. Since 2008, Knowledge Oman has managed within the years to solidify the vision by impacting hundreds of thousands of people with initiatives in the form of projects, workshops, seminars that positively impacted students from college and universities, women, entrepreneurs and professionals from various industries. Projects were supported by local and international partners, attracting tens of thousands of registrations and hundreds of volunteers across the years. Knowledge Oman as a consequence received multiple local and regional awards that includes the “Outstanding contribution to the cause of education” from the World Human Resource Development (HRD) Congress. Members of the platform consist of multinational group of both locals and expatriates living in the country with the passion of creating, sharing and exchanging knowledge.

Seminars

Knowledge Oman Seminars are periodic events organized by the members where professionals, locals and expats, from the industry are invited to discuss contemporary issues and offer suggested solutions for the development of the society. Several seminars were organized for free for the public to attend and learn. Example of seminars include “How to be your own boss”, “How to run a business as an entrepreneur”, “how to fund your business”, “women entrepreneurship”, “cyberbullying”, and many more. All seminars were organized in collaboration with private and public institution and were open for public to register and attend for free.

Special & Ad-hoc Projects

Knowledge Oman has launched various initiatives that impact the society positively in one way or another. Some of the projects were created solely while others were launched by working closely with partners in the industry since 2008. Some of the initiatives that Knowledge Oman introduced include but is not limited to Educational Seminars, KO Book Review, iCommunity, OmanWall, OmanVideos, eSchool, Show your Potential, Online Forums, e-Library, Edu-Competitions, Social enterprise workshops by Dubai based firm consult, coach for a cause (C3), Tech Camp and the likes. Most of the projects were run for specific duration, specific causes and for specific target audience. The goal is to ensure that valuable knowledge are shared through the various initiatives launched.

Giving-back & Charity

Knowledge Oman has engaged on projects that are solely for the purpose of sharing love, care and support for children, elderly and needy associations. Since 2008, Knowledge Oman has visited hospitals such as Sultan Qaboos University Hospital to distribute gifts to children, Al Noor Blind Association to support with setting up the IT infrastructure, Children Library in Muscat and Musanah with supporting on setting up computers and visited so as spent time with the elderly at interior location as the Rustaq house, including the distribution of educational materials to academic institutions such as University of Nizwa, the German University of Technology and the Middle East College of Information Technology. Knowledge Oman also organizes Iftar Siam project for distributing food to the needy families during Ramadhan.

Optimistic about the year ahead and working under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, Knowledge Oman continues to build local and international partnerships and work towards providing people in Oman with the necessary knowledge and skills to meet the Oman Vision 2040.
