GUtech Students Visit
German Ambassador

A group of nine GUtech Foundation-Year students, who have been studying German as a foreign language in the past year, visited the German Ambassador H. E. Angelika Storz-Chakarji last Wednesday. “For most of us this is the first time that we meet an Ambassador,” said Manal Al Hajri, who is studying Urban Planning and Architectural Design at GUtech. Manal thanked the Ambassador for her hospitality and handed-over a small gift from the students - a compilation of photos of interesting sites in Oman and articles on popular young Omani personalities.
H.E. Storz-Chakarji was very impressed of the students’ ideas. “Oman is a country with many eye-catchers and a love for beauty. For example, the way people are dressed is very special. In many ways Oman reminds me of Japan and France,” she said. The Ambassador presented the whole staff of the Embassy and their duties to the group of students. According to the Embassy, around 500 Germans are officially registered in the Sultanate.
Storz-Chakarji became the German Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman last year. She has 30 years of experience in the diplomatic service with positions held in the Federal Foreign Office, German Embassies in Paris, Tokyo and the German Permanent mission to the United Nations in New York. “At my time it was a challenge to be a female Ambassador. I was among the first women who were sent to Cairo for an Arabic course,” said H.E. Storz-Chakarji. She encouraged the students to study languages at an early age, “It is much easier to learn a foreign language when you are young,” stressed the Ambassador.
