  • Knowledge Oman Supports Robert Kaplan event on Effective Strategy Development

    Knowledge Oman, the leading knowledge-based community organization in the country, continues to expand its ties in the community and to support leading knowledge initiatives. In knowledge partnership, Knowledge Oman extends its support to Synerggie Eventz for the renowned Robert Kaplan event on Linking Strategy to Operations for Competitive Advantage scheduled for the first time in Oman this May 22nd at Al Bustan Palace Hotel.

    Knowledge Oman was recently awarded the “Golden Strategic Award for Culture” at the Pan Arab Awards 2013 for its excellence in rendering various projects to the community in Sultanate.

    Prof. Robert Kaplan is the Baker Foundation Professor at Harvard Business School. He has received honorary doctorates from the Universities of Stuttgart, Lodz and Waterloo. Kaplan is currently collaborating with this Harvard Business School colleague Prof. Michael Porter, the world’s most influential authority on Strategy and Competitiveness to transform the health care industry by introducing accurate measurements of outcomes and costs. Prof. Kaplan along with David Norton, created “The Balanced Scorecard” more than 20 years ago and it has now become the premier management tool for Strategy Execution as described in his most recent book The Execution Premium.

    The intensive 1 day workshop delivered by Robert Kaplan in Muscat will cover Processes of effective Strategy development; Components of a complete strategy map; Steps to properly design a Balanced Scorecard; Methods and techniques necessary to cascade and align strategy; Principles of effective execution and governance; Key linkage points between strategy and operations; and Processes and tools to monitor/test/adapt strategy and improve decision-making.

  • Knowledge Oman Celebrates 5 Years of Success 

    5th Anniversary

    Knowledge Oman has proudly marked its fifth anniversary, celebrating half a decade of being the country’s leading knowledge based community platform. In a team gathering ceremony, a word of thanks was extended by President Tariq Al Barwani, SVP Khalfan Al Mahrazy and SVP Rym Aoudia. Knowledge Oman acknowledged the significant role of its volunteers who have led initiatives both online and offline to spread free learning across Oman and serve the vision of building a knowledge society.

    Established in April 2008, the platform was launched as a mission to solidify the vision of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos to transform Oman into a knowledge based society. With a team of dedicated voluntarily professionals from various backgrounds and nationalities and over 15,000 registered members, Knowledge Oman set foot towards this vision while nurturing community talent and welcoming a multinational team to create, share and promote knowledge across the Sultanate.

    Tariq Al Barwani, Founder and President of Knowledge Oman says, "We are very proud of our accomplishments throughout the past 5 years and strive to make bigger and more impactful strides in the coming years. Knowledge Oman is a platform created by the people, run by the people and done for the people of this beautiful community.”

    KO 5th anniversary

    Knowledge Oman has made many strides to support the community. Such strides include a network of Knowledge Ambassadors in the country delivering free talks and workshops, community seminars and talent learning events, introducing the first community KO school free e-learning courses, the KO library that features English and Arabic books to promote a reading culture, the online platforms OmanVideos.com and OmanWall.com, the iCommunity blog of community articles, the Show Your Potential program that guides participants to qualify for Microsoft certifications, and more.

    In the spirit of collaboration, Knowledge Oman has associated with a number of public and private institutions for its initiatives, such as the global speaking agency The London Speakers Bureau, the largest software company in world Microsoft, largest electronic store in the country e-Max, the government entity ITA, the Omani Women Association, Dar Al Ataa, Tawasul, Oman International Exhibition Center, a number of industry conferences, and colleges and universities across Oman, to name a few.

    “Many community members have found their passion in Knowledge Oman and are committed to giving back to society through our portfolio of initiatives and we hope many more do in the coming years. We also wish to expand this exposure to make our presence and impact worldwide,” adds Tariq.

    Knowledge Oman has also received both local and international recognition for its achievements. This included the "International standard web technology award" during the Oman Web Awards competition 2009, along with the "Brand Leadership Award" at the world Brand Congress 2010 and in 2012 the "Outstanding contribution to the cause of Education” award from the World HRD Congress. With the success rendered over the past 5 years, Knowledge Oman continues its leading volunteer work to serve the country’s growth as a knowledge society and the people’s progress while paving way to new developments.

  • Knowledge Oman Recognized For Supporting Student Innovation

    Knowledge Oman, the leading knowledge based community platform in the Sultanate, has been recognized for its role in supporting student innovation by the largest global software company in the world, Microsoft. This honorable recognition is in line with the active participation of Knowledge Oman in the Imagine Cup initiative to encourage local talent and creative ideas, being awarded during the Local Finals Competition 2013 of the Imagine Cup student projects.

    Tariq Al Barwani, Founder and President of Knowledge Oman, said, “Our aim at Knowledge Oman is to bring knowledge and education closer to the community by empowering youth talent and allowing it to blossom. We are very pleased that our support to Microsoft in the Imagine Cup program was a great success and are honored to receive the trophy.”

    Amal Al Maashari, Almutassim Al Gheilani, Rym Aoudia and BabySam Samuel represented Knowledge Oman in the Imagine Cup initiative through active participation with Microsoft in the Imagine Cup 2013 Roadshow across colleges and universities while organizing, planning, meeting and participating to connect with students and empower their project ideas.

    The Microsoft Imagine Cup is the world’s premier student technology competition where eligible students are invited to use their imagination and passion to create technology solutions in the competitions and challenges. Over the past ten years, more than 1.65 million students from more than 190 countries have participated in the Imagine Cup. It is an opportunity for students to join the Imagine Cup community, where they can connect with other bright and talented students from all over the world to interact, share ideas, have fun, and learn.

    Knowledge Oman is uniquely driven by the community and for the community, run voluntarily by a team of local and expatriate team living in Oman coming from different backgrounds, nationalities and professions of both private and public institutions. Established in 2008, Knowledge Oman has received both local and international recognition for the excellence rendered, including an award winning status for its community projects.
